Profiles of Jewish GI's: William S. Zelnicker

William S. Zelnicker was born in September 1895. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War I. William served in France during the war, and he was injured by the mustard gas that was used against his unit. He had three children including a son who was killed in action during World War II. Zelnicker is 104 years-old, and he is one of the oldest living World War I veterans in the United States. A few years ago, he received the French equivalent of the Medal of Honor for his actions during the war. He currently resides in a VA (Veteran's Administration) Hospital in California.
